Become a career mentor for GCU students and make a difference

GCU’s award-winning MINT (Mentoring, Internships, Networking and Talks) Programme supports final year students to help enhance their employability and increase their chances of gaining employment at the earliest possible opportunity. Launched in 2020, the Mentoring arm of MINT has supported over 1,500 final year students to date thanks to the incredible support from our alumni community.

Many of our alumni have generously volunteered as Career Mentors to these final year students, giving advice, support and a helping hand to guide them through those crucial next steps into employment. Thank you sincerely to those of you who have volunteered in previous years, and we hope you are able to join us again this year.

The 2024 Career Mentoring Programme will be running from March to August 2024. If you would like to register your interest to be a mentor, please complete the form in the link below. Thank you so much for your support.

This is a six-month programme running from March to August inclusive.
You will be hand-matched by our team to mentor a final-year GCU student. All mentors and mentees are asked for information on industry, degree, and other skills and preferences so we will take all criteria into consideration when matching and do so as closely as possible.
We suggest one virtual or in-person meeting per month. However, this can be flexible to suit you and your mentee’s needs.

You and your mentee can set out your objectives, and with our guidance, create a meeting structure and content to suit you both.

Our mentees will undertake an induction programme prior to your mentoring relationship commencing. They understand you are there to provide guidance on general workplace skills, and if appropriate, more specific to your industry. However, there is no expectation to provide placements, internships or help with University work.

GCU has denied any wrongdoing and made a number of attempts to push back against the government’s characterization of its doctoral programs. The Education Department noted, though, that the college didn’t dispute the government’s determination that “98% of students enrolled in certain doctoral programs had to pay more than GCU’s advertised cost.”

Weeks before it was slapped with its record fine, GCU released a statement claiming that the government was “coordinating efforts to unjustly target GCU.” The university alleged that the investigation into its tuition was in retaliation for a 2021 lawsuit filed against the Education Department for categorizing it as a for-profit university, which GCU has pushed back against. While the IRS does consider GCU to be nonprofit for tax purposes, the Education Department still classifies it as a for-profit school in relation to financial aid. That lawsuit is ongoing, and federal officials maintain that these issues are “entirely unrelated” and that GCU’s loss of its nonprofit status had nothing to do with the fine.

GCU President Brian Mueller also criticized the Education Department’s investigation prior to the fine, arguing that his university actually provides more financial disclosure than is legally required, according to The Arizona Republic. Mueller also said GCU’s financial disclosures have previously been upheld in court.
